Tomato<\/strong> is one of the most widely grown vegetables in Polish gardens, on balconies and in plastic tunnels. Its intense flavor, versatility in the kitchen and high nutritional value make many people decide to grow<\/g> their own tomatoes<\/g> every year – from seeds, cuttings or ready-made seedlings. In this article, you’ll find practical tips on different growing methods – in the ground, in pots and in the tunnel – as well as learn about tomato care<\/strong> and how growing cherry tom<\/strong> atoes differs from standard varieties. <\/p>\n\n

Growing tomatoes – where to start?<\/h2>\n\n

The best results come from growing from scratch, i.e. from tomato seeds<\/a><\/strong>. This allows you to choose exactly the varieties that will work best in specific conditions – for example, in the garden, greenhouse, pots or on the balcony. Tomato seeds are sown from February to April, preferably in special multiplats or peat pots, and the young seedlings are pipped after the development of the first leaves proper. <\/p>\n\n

About 6-8 weeks after sowing, the plants are ready to be transplanted into the ground or larger containers. It is crucial to harden the seedlings – that is, to gradually accustom young tomatoes to outdoor conditions. <\/p>\n\n

Ground cultivation works especially well in warmer regions of the country and in adequately sunny positions. The soil should be fertile, permeable and rich in nutrients – preferably enriched with compost or manure before the season. <\/p>\n\n

Tomatoes are planted into the ground in the second half of May, when the risk of frost has passed. Tall varieties are worth staking or leading by supports – this makes care and harvesting easier. Plants need regular watering and fertilizing, especially during flowering and fruit setting. <\/p>\n
